China calls for Netherlands to revoke its order targeting Nexperia
A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce said the situation surrounding Nexperia stems from what Beijing described as “inappropriate administrative intervention” by the Dutch authorities in normal corporate operations, according to state-run Xinhua.
The ministry called on the Netherlands to create conditions conducive to dialogue between the companies involved and to help safeguard the security and stability of global semiconductor industrial and supply chains.
The spokesperson noted that China has already taken concrete steps to allow exemptions for compliant semiconductor exports intended for civilian use, saying these measures are aimed at ensuring the smooth functioning and stability of the global chip supply chain.
The Nexperia issue was discussed on Dec. 8 during talks in Beijing between German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul and senior Chinese officials, including Vice President Han Zheng, Trade Minister Wang Wentao, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
During those meetings, China’s trade minister stressed that the immediate priority should be ending what he called unwarranted administrative interference by the Dutch government, stabilizing the semiconductor supply chain, and preventing risks to global industries.
The Dutch government took control of Nexperia in late September, citing concerns over a potential transfer of sensitive technology to Wingtech. The move was carried out using previously unused powers under a law known as the Availability of Goods Act.
Under the intervention, Dutch authorities blocked certain management decisions deemed to pose risks to Dutch and European security. The action followed warnings from the United States regarding Nexperia’s links to China.
Wingtech has criticized the Dutch decision, describing it as excessive interference driven by geopolitical considerations rather than commercial realities.
